Dead Ringers: Symphonic Suites From The Films Of David Cronenberg/Howard Shore

I've been on a Cronenberg kick lately. The Brood is one of my all time favorite flicks and probably my personal fave Cronenberg movie even though I love everything that I've seen of his. He's actually my favorite director of all time as well. I love his ideas and the blur between reality and hallucination.

His movies are almost always accompanied by Howard Shore. He always provides just the right sound without being overly in your face or too subtle.

Here is a rare compilation featuring a suite from The Brood. It's the only way I've been able to obtain ANY music from this film.

Also featured is the score to Scanners, which is probably the closest you'll get to a flamboyent Shore/Cronenberg score. Pretty rowdy electronic stuff going on here at times.

The Dead Ringers score is much more in line with The Brood and other Shore/Cronenberg scores. Very moody orchestral stuff.

Rapidshare LOSES. Megaupload WINS.

Though a small number (this blog is still pretty new) 23 people preferred Megaupload and only 8 preferred Rapidshare.

Case in fact... when it comes to downloading quickly, ANY file sharing site is better than Rapidshare.

Over the past couple of months my disliking for Rapidshare only grew. Practically every file from Rapidshare I attempt to download now it tells me I have to become a Premium member to download that file! It doesn't even tell me to wait for ten minutes anymore. This is very frustrating.

I guess I should just fork out the cash for a Premium account (only because some bloggers won't start using something else) but in all honesty, a lot of these files I can find through some of my favorite file sharing programs. Thankfully some soundtrack blogs are providing links to a couple or multiple file sharing sites. At least this gives us an option.

This isn't to say Megaupload is the best of the best... far from it. Uploading stuff to the site has become something frustrating so I most likely will be using a different site. However, when it comes to downloading from Megaupload, I've never had a problem.

Until I decided to buy a Rapidshare Premium account (which ain't likely) I will most likely not frequent the blogs that use it anymore. It's just a time waster to me. A real shame too because a few of my favorite blogs use it.

Rapidshare is a piece of junk so dirty even the Junkyard won't embrace it.

I'm done with it.

Escape From New York Original and Expanded Releases/John Carpenter

Sorry for the delay people. It's been awhile and I said there would be lots in store for Halloween. I have some catching up to do. However, I've been terribly busy with my own music career and various other things.

When I bought the Escape From New York soundtrack years ago it was the expanded version and it quickly became one of my all time favorite scores to listen to. Then I watcedh the movie again and noticed a significant difference between the instrumentation of certain cues on the Expanded Release and the film. Especially the Main Titles.

After doing some research I found that the way out of print original release contained the versions as they appeared in the film. Thankfully for me I remembered a used CD store I had been in the week before had a copy of the original Varese Release.

Needless to say I snagged that baby.

The Expanded release is fantastic as it's remastered and features some great tracks not available on the original release but the original release features some stuff not available on the Expanded.

Pros and Cons to both. That's why yet again, it's nice to have both versions.

The Fog 35 Track Bootleg & Official Expanded Release/John Carpenter

Here is another nice double whammy for the Halloween Season.

The bootleg provided here features every cue of music in the film... even all the radio broadcast music. All of the stuff that you missed on the Varese and Silva Screen Editions are HERE. This is good stuff!

The official release by Silva Screen was an expanded version of the Varese release. I have provided this as well. The mastering work is nice and these tracks are a lot more straightforward of course than the bootleg which had a lot of cutoffs here and there due to the editing of the film from which it was taken straight from. Of course at the same time a lot of music is missing even on this expanded release which you will find on the bootleg. Pros and Cons to both versions. That's why you NEED both.

With both you are set with one of John Carpenter's finest entries in film scoring. The Fog was Carpenter at his prime.

Assault On Precinct 13 Bootleg & Official Release/John Carpenter

I have a special double take on the same film here.

First up is the 27 Track Bootleg. It contains every single cue in the film (at least from what I can tell). Down to the ice cream truck music. Seriously. It doesn't get more complete than that. The sound quality I feel is pretty damn good. Some cues drop off and come back in but this is probably due to the editing of the film what with having to lower the music over dialog etc. This version is around 33 minutes long.

Years later I come across an official French release for the film that contains 16 tracks and is around 25 minutes long. Sound quality is better of course and contains all of the memorable stuff.

Even the complete bootleg is only complete by 8 minutes and in all honesty it can get pretty repetitive if you aren't an asshole completist like me.

Phantasm IV: Oblivion/Christopher L. Stone

Just watched this flick today for the first time and I think it may be my favorite sequel. It has a little bit more of the flavor the original had. A lot of scenes where you don't know whether it's a dream or not (maybe the entire series is one big bad dream).

A very ambiguous ending by the way, if you haven't seen it, but this just added to the reasons why I liked it. Oh yeah, and the sphere boobs scene. Classic.

I don't think there is anything available as far as Phantasm III goes. From what I have found out, III just used the score from II and there were a couple of scenes with original material.

The score for IV was an original score written by Christopher L. Stone. It has it's moments. Nothing like Fred Myrow's classic original and almost on par with all the sequels scores. It's something you'll like if you're a fan. And it doesn't make for bad spooky background music at all.

Phantasm II 31 Track Bootleg/Fred Myrow

I haven't listened to every single track yet but it sounds like a very decent quality bootleg from what I have heard. The music for the second film works well, though perhaps the first score was special for it's more funk-ti-fied take on some things. It was a lot more spooky than this score.

But this is nice to have if you're a fan of the film. I really like the new version of the main theme. Unless you're a completeist like me, you'll probably be satisfied with the bonus tracks on the original Phantasm soundtrack. But I for one am never satisfied. ;-)

BOOOYYY!

This is a piece of horror movie history. Not only one of my favorite horror films but one of my all time favorite pieces of cinema. It was more than just a good midnight movie. It was original, weird, surreal, and fantastic. Not one second goes by that isn't drenched in mood and atmosphere.

I have only recently seen some of the sequels, and while I enjoy them for being faithful honest to God enjoyable companion pieces, not a one compares to what this original has going for it. It's just something that can't be recaptured. You can tell the filmmakers were experimenting with some new weird ideas here and it shows in the delivery.

The music, again, was a product of it's time. It's brilliant and works fantastic in the film and as a (very) spooky stand alone listen.

This version I present to you is the larger 23 track edition put out by Silva Screen. It contains some music from Phantasm II.

Haunted Honeymoon 33 Track Bootleg/John Morris

Here is a nice score to have for the coming Halloween season. It's John Morris' score to the Gene Wilder directed "Haunted Honeymoon". Personally, I always felt it was an underrated comedy. The score is fantastic and memorable. This seems to have most every cue except for the part where Gilda Radner and Dom Deluise sing and there is a scary instrumental segment. The actual song is featured in the end credits which is on this bootleg but it would be nice to have the version that plays in the middle of the film.

Other than that, I couldn't ask for more. Except for maybe an official release which I'm pretty sure we won't see for a long long time.

Fun Fact: Gene Wilder and I share the same birthday of June 11th.

Tracks have no names just numbers.

IN REMEMBRANCE OF HENRY GIBSON/Charlotte's Web/The Sherman Brothers

I found out tonight when I got home that one of my childhood favorite actors had died. Henry Gibson. The co-star of many of my childhood favorite's like The 'Burbs and The Blues Brothers. He was always a co-star but always had an impact on the films he was featured in. He was always such a seemingly eccentric person. Unique in every way. Somehow this stood out for me as a kid and I became an everlasting fan. It's really hard for me to believe he is dead.

I bring you a very hard to find soundtrack here. It is the soundtrack for 'Charlotte's Web' in which Henry Gibson voiced Wilbur the Pig. This was only available on vinyl. A great soundtrack especially for anyone who grew up with the film like I did. I encourage you to listen to the track 'Deep In The Dark' and reminisce.

Check out some of Henry Gibson's flicks while you're at it.

When you are a child sometimes you can have bizarre heroes in your life and it's sad when you grow older and watch your childhood heroes die.

Toxic Tunes From Tromaville!/Various Artists

I have just started to get into Troma movies. I had seen relatively little in the past but I've managed to watch all of the Toxic Avenger movies in the last week. I actually found the series to be highly enjoyable trash, except for maybe the third one which was lacking a lot of the elements that made the others so memorable.

I'm just getting around to listening to this soundtrack compilation. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. I couldn't find anything else related to the first three Toxic Avenger movies other than this and it's very little. This album also features music from Class of Nuke'em High and Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD.

Maniac Cop/Jay Chattaway

Just watched this one for the very first time. Not a bad piece of 80's cheese, written by Larry Cohen himself. It's even got Bruce Campbell, Tom Atkins and a cameo by Sam Raimi. Oh yeah, there's a killer cop involved too.

Nice 80's horror score here by Jay Chattaway. All the information that I can really find on this is that it is a Vinyl rip. Never before made officially for CD. From what I've heard of it, it is very good quality.

Evil Dead Trap/Tomohiko Kira

Honestly, this isn't something I ever thought I'd find myself posting. It's just so fucking obscure. Years ago I was on a random myspace made for fans of horror film music and one of the tracks they had up was the main theme for a Japanese gore flick from the 80's called "Evil Dead Trap". Not to be confused with "The Evil Dead". I planned on not listening to it much but I gave it a few seconds listen... low and behold this theme really got me. I downloaded the theme and searched for the soundtrack and found nothing. Not a single clue as to whether there was ever a soundtrack or bootleg at all. Years went by.

The other day I stumbled upon this 12 track score for the film from one of my favorite non-blog sources. The person who had it didn't speak very good english. When I asked he/she about the soundtrack's origin and whether it was a bootleg they just said something to the extent of 'hope you enjoy... i do not no... bootleg probly!"

I haven't seen the film yet but I plan on netflixing it very soon. Surprising since these are the type of movies I pretty much live for!

The film's main theme is what stands out the most (Track 1). Absolutely moody. I was almost dissapointed to find that tracks 7-12 are pretty much just variants on a particular chase theme. But they are still very good and in all honesty there is not even a smidgen of room for me to complain being that this is probably the rarest score I have in possession.

There is no real poster image I have for introduction like with most posts. All I could find was a DVD cover. There's not much on the web about this movie except for reviews and one small fansite.

Children Of The Corn 666: Isaac's Return Promo/Terry Michael Huud

It's been impossible coming up with the scores for 3,4,5 and 7 so here is the last Children of the Corn post for now. This is a really good moody score with an absolutely awesome main title piece. This probably has my favorite opening titles to any Children of the Corn movie.

The film can be a little confusing and hard to follow at times. But honestly, this has always been one of my favorite straight to video COTC titles along with Part IV. It's nice to have Isaac back and there are a lot of scythes and sickles in this one. It's filmed in a sepia tone and they seem to have gone for atmosphere more than anything in this one.

I have included two bonus tracks composed and performed by Faith and The Muse.

Children Of The Corn II: The Final Sacrifice/Daniel Licht

Children of the Corn II happened to have been filmed in a town not too far from where I grew up.
Let's just say I remember Liberty/Siler-City as being Rednecks-ville. It's really really small and feels a bit like Nilbog.

The movie itself was a grand mixture of being an ambitious sequel and a terrible teen love story. There's lots of cool violence involving "He Who Walks Behind The Rows" and a terrific nose bleeding scene. But the best scene in pretty much the entire series would have to go to one here involving an old lady in a remote chair being controlled by the children. She's forced out into a road where she is hit by a truck and is sent flying in the air. Absolutely hilarious. You must see it to believe it.

The score by Licht is quite impressive. He uses choir in this score mostly in the way Goldsmith used choir in the Omen movies and less in the creepy childlike way Elias used choir.

Children of the Corn/Jonathan Elias

Well here is the first of three rare Children of the Corn scores for you. The first is the best and the classic. The score is effective and very melodic. Considered by many to be amongst the most memorable of horror film scores along with the likes of Halloween and The Omen. I used to consider this one of my top ten horror films. Looking at it nowadays I don't see it as flawless as I once did. However, I don't have it in me to really point out it's flaws. You see, I'm rather fond of amish hats and I'm also a collector of sickles and scythes. Seriously. So this series has a special place in my heart, you understand?

Besides, I wouldn't want "He Who Walks Behind the Rows" to come get me... although I'm certainly of age...

Final Destination 2/Shirley Walker

Final Destination 2 I consider to be the best entry in this series. It's HUGELY entertaining beyond words. Suspenseful, gorey, and perfectly paced. Perhaps my main problem with the latest entry was that it was a bit too fast paced and didn't make time for anything else. Of course that could be looked at as a good thing since we know the formula so well and we don't need to see different characters trying to figure the same old things out over and over again. But at the same time I feel some of the suspense is sacrificed. Still though, The Final Destination was a fun flick with plenty 'o gore and great deaths, including a classic escalator munching scene. I definitely recommend making a trip to your local theater your first destination!

This is the 15 track promo score for Shirley Walker's score. There's a lot more subtlety and a bit more of a rhythmic thing going on here. It works well. This promo is not to be confused with the Willard/Final Destination 2 promo that's out there.

Unfortunately I can't find anything for Final Destination 3. Shame. Enjoy what you can get!

Final Destination/Shirley Walker

So in celebration of The Final Destination, the 4th film (and final film?...ha ) in the franchise having been released this past weekend, I bring you a special treat.

Here is the 31 Track Complete Bootleg score for Shirley Walker's eerie score for the original first film. It's decent quality as I'm sure it was lifted off of the DVD Isolated Score.

I caught this movie on DVD right before the second one went to theaters. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. Of the mass amounts of teen horror crap coming out back then (and now) this was a standout and in my opinion has still kept a pretty good thing going when it comes to being a series.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II/Christopher Young

Christopher Young returned for the sequel which was bigger and badder in every way. In other words, EPIC. Young provided an equally epic and bombastic score. Choral work and everything.

Though it has some flaws and plot holes, so did the classical original. Hellbound is my personal favorite of the series.

Hellraiser/Christopher Young

Hellraiser is one of those epitomal horror scores. It's a must own if you are into scores of a horrific type. In fact, I'd rank it amongst the top 5 best horror films scores (one day I'll come up with an official list).

Christopher Young always seemed to fall under the radar but he scored some hits with stuff like this, Hellbound: Hellraiser II , Nightmare on Elm Street 2, The Fly II, etc...

More recently Sam Raimi seems to have taken him under his wing and replaced Elfman to do all of the scores for his features (Elfman and Raimi had a falling out after Spider-Man 2).

Gremlins: The Soundtrack Batch/Jerry Goldsmith/Various Artists

This is the Junkyard's biggest post yet! It took a couple of nights getting this together for your enjoyment.

First up we have the first Gremlins movie. Classic stuff. I don't even have to go into how this is a childhood classic for all of us who were kids in the 80's. The great score by the great Jerry Goldsmith didn't get a full score release. It got a measly four tracks on the official album (around 16 minutes worth of score). However this was better than nothing and of course it included the great Gremlin rag.

So here for your enjoyment is the official album release for Gremlins.

Now here is the 21 Track Bootleg Score. This is the first Gremlins Bootleg Score to be released. The sound quality is pretty good. No intrusive sound effects or anything. The only real flaw is that there is a mild hiss noise throughout the score. It's not terribly noticeable but it's obviously a bootleg and not a mastered album. But quite frankly I prefer this bootleg to anything else. The last 3 tracks are from Twilight Zone: The Movie. The only reason I'm keeping those with it is because it was a part of this bootleg for a long time and in order to escape confusion they are kept in there.

As a BONUS I added a 22nd track to the 21 Track Bootleg. It is the Gremlins Suite that Jerry Goldsmith performed on the album "Goldsmith Conducts Goldsmith".

Now, I have come across various "Complete" Gremlins soundtrack that vary from 40 to 46 tracks. I was going to post the 46 track version I found but I can't verify it at all in searches. And to be honest these "Complete" versions suck "complete" ass in sound quality. Especially when compared to the FAR superior 21 track version in 320 kbps . If I come across one of the complete soundtracks with decent quality I'll post it here but otherwise stick to the two soundtracks above.

This score I find to be a slightly more enjoyable listen overall. I love the original for it's old school Goldsmith style but this one is just as cinematic as scores get and of course the quality of sound here is much better to as this was an official score release. Not nearly complete mind you... but a pretty solid soundtrack that I grew up with. If any of you know of an Expanded bootleg, let me know. I included a bonus track to this one. It's the music that plays when the Brain Gremlin makes a Bat Gremlin. It was from Goldsmith's score for The Burbs.

Poltergeist III/Joe Renzetti

A lower budget sequel calls for a lower budget score. Enter Joe Renzetti. He came in with some synthesizers to fill in where Goldsmith once had an orchestra.

I love synthesized scores though. I'm a huge fan of the mood that electronic instruments can provide. Hell, John Carpenter is one of my favorite score composers.

This isn't John Carpenter by any means, but Renzetti does a fantastic job at creating a fucking creepy mood. It's not all that melodic until the End Credits but that's okay. This is one that provides some disturbing background music. Not one to put on during a get together but when in the right mood, this is good stuff.

The movie itself isn't great and isn't bad neither. I saw this in theaters when I was a wee child. It's stuck with me for some reason. It has a rather creepy atmosphere to it.

Poltergeist II Deluxe Edition/Jerry Goldsmith

This score is a lot more in your face than the previous installment. This is more comparable to Goldsmith's Damien: Omen II what with all it's choral chanting and demonic rambunctiousness.

It's a fun score and has a high creep factor. A lot more synthy too. There was a measly 5 track version released that lasted just under 30 minutes in 1986... then Varese Sarabande released a Deluxe Edition in 2003. This is what I have for you here.

There is a 2 disc bootleg out there. I haven't a clue as to the quality of that one. But if it's any count, it will be posted one day.

As for the movie, it's just as entertaining as the first though it's not quite as good. I say this because it's obviously lacking the Spielberg flair of the original. It just doesn't feel as tight and profound as the original and perhaps a bit forced. But that's just about as critical as I can get with the film. I'm very fond of Poltergeist II for it's visceral energy and it's all out weird factor. This entry is a lot more slimy and ooey gooey. It's got a maggot man, a preacher skeleton guy, and indians.

Poltergeist/Jerry Goldsmith

One of the greatest horror film scores ever... I present to you the out of print film soundtrack for "Poltergeist" by the great Jerry Goldsmith.

This is one of my all time favorite horror film scores. There's not a track on here I don't find repeatable. It's an ultimate. The very creepy yet beautiful main theme is only one of the many memorable elements amongst this score. Every note hits home. This movie came out a week after I was born. The week before, E.T. The Extraterrestrial came out on the day I was born.

I love this movie. I love this score! It still has the power to make you jump out of your seat.

The Last Starfighter 24 Track Bootleg/Craig Safan

I don't think I've seen this film in it's entirety since being a little boy. It's one of those I always never got around to finishing for one reason or the other.

Craig Safan actually scored one of my favorite films, "Fade To Black". I covered the song "Heroes Have No Right To Die" from the end credits. I chatted with him through email a bit but he didn't let me know his feelings on the cover. I'm not sure he liked it...

Anyways, I haven't listened to this in it's entirety yet but I plan on it. I have heard segments on XM Radio's Cinemagic but that's it. From what I hear though, it's good stuff...

The official release by Intrada contained around 48 minutes of music and the Southern Cross official release contained 30 minutes of music. Both go for around $100.

The bootleg offered here has about 62 minutes of music. Free.

Godzilla Limited Edition 2 CD/David Arnold

With the announcement of Legendary Pictures producing a new american Godzilla film I felt it was necessary to post this rare score for the original American Godzilla in the Junkyard.

The original album for the 1998 film "Godzilla" just contained 2 tracks of score and the rest were songs featured in the film or inspired by the film.

There was a 15 track score promo as well which was very hard to find.

Then La La Land Records released a complete 2 disc limited edition in 2007 that was limited to 3000 copies. This is one of the most complete official soundtrack releases you will find for any movie. A job well done. This is one of my favorite David Arnold scores. Brassy and bombastic, this is a true action score. Finally, all the cues I loved and found missing on the promo are available here.

As for the movie itself, it's garnered a lot more flak than I feel it deserved. At the time I loved it, and I've been a Big G fan all of my life. I pretty much knew from the beginning that Godzilla would be a different creation but I liked the way they kept a lot of his trademarks (spikes, familiar roar etc.). Nowadays I don't feel I defend it as much because I can envision a darker take that truly embraces the force of nature that was Godzilla in the first film. Godzilla 1998 was a summer popcorn movie. Nothing more, nothing less. On that level I feel the movie succeeded. But compared to the effectiveness of later big monster movies like Cloverfield and War of the Worlds I can see where the Big G shouldn't be given popcorn movie glossover and treated as something meaner and grittier. Godzilla that's not just a big lizard but a monster with an attitude. I'd like to see that. Hopefully Legendary Pictures can give us something on that level.

This is the out of print Varese Sarabande release of "The Running Man".

This is one of my personal favorite "Ahnuld" films from the 80's. It's got everything. Action, one-liners, blood & guts, and women with wacked-out 80's hair-do's.

I have to say that for the most part, this score delivers the 80's synthesized goods. It has a very memorable main theme too.

"Get in the mood for the Faltermeyer dude"... haha... I made a funny 80's action one liner. Ha... haha... meh....

The 'Burbs DELUXE Editon/Jerry Goldsmith

The 'Burbs was originally released as a 13 track soundtrack through the Varese Sarabande's membership club. Then it was released so many years later in a 33 Track Deluxe edition again only through the membership club.

If you are in any way shape or form a Goldsmith fan then this is a MUST I tell you. MUST!
It's got everything. Gothic organs, a nod to Ennio Moriconne's "Once Upon A Time In The West" and even synthesized doggy barks.

The Entity Bootleg/Charles Bernstein

This is one of those movies that almost physically scared the shit out of me. I remember the first time seeing it by myself in the dark at home while my parents had gone to the beach for some alone time.

The music added a particular synthesized tension and foreboding that was entirely unexceptable to be subjected to if one were supposed to get some sleep afterward. So after watching this movie I walked to the bathroom and while washing my hands the shampoo bottle in the shower fell down and at 4 in the morning this sounded like a bulldozer crashing into the house. I did jump into the air. I remember that.

Never had and never will my heart beat so fast.

Well here is a decent sounding bootleg of the score. This is a near impossible find, so be sure to hold on to this one once you have it. Don't listen to it late at night and alone... trust me.

The tracks have no names there are just numbered Tracks 1-36.

Excalibur 21 Track Bootleg/Trevor Jones

This is a fantastic score. A grand mixture of classical and original score by Trevor Jones. The official LP release only contained some of the original classical pieces and no original score. Here, you get it all.

The most popular version of this bootleg soundtrack seems to be the 18 track version released in the mid-nineties. This version was created in 2001.

I stumbled upon a 27 track version of this bootleg, but the extra tracks were merely lines of dialog from the film ripped from the DVD, not extra music. What I have for you here features all of the music tracks available.

Little Shop Of Horrors EXPANDED/Miles Goodman

Consider this one of the rarest in the Junkyard. This is the complete soundtrack to the film. All the little nuances and things you remember from the original film versions of the songs are all here. Totally different from the original album release. This is a nice 2 CD set that even includes the score elements between musical numbers. Miles Goodman was always one of the most underrated of film score composers (just check out Dirty Rotten Scoundrels... oh yeah, pretty hard to find... I'll have it for you one day).

This, along with "The Nightmare Before Christmas", were my favorite musicals growing up.

The Adventures Of Rocky And Bullwinkle Promo/Mark Mothersbaugh

This is a promo release for the underrated Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle film.

It was pretty much just like the old cartoon with plenty of jabs at modern pop culture without seeming like a pop culture reference movie. It was definitely for the fans.

Everyone else just won't get it.

It's a great bombastic action score that also uses a lot of the classic cartoon "mickey mousing" techniques by the great Mark Mothersbaugh.

Misery/Marc Shaiman

So, yesterday I went to go see The Collector (very good American made torture porn by the way if you're into that kind of thing) I decided to pop this score in on the way there. This CD was over by the time I got back home and the theater isn't that far away.

It's a short 6 track album with a lot of subtlety.

It's a good score. Solid. No complaints. Don't be expecting to find anything all that hummable but the score is tense and especially effective with the imagery of the movie.

Event Horizon/Michael Kamen/Orbital

Okay so this is probably the best Science Fiction/Horror hybrid since "Alien". No. I'm not kidding.

There's a lot of argument over Pal W.S. Anderson's films but most will agree that this is his magnum opus.

The score by Kamen is effective and adds to the tension that's prominent throughout the film. The soundtrack album actually takes his score and remixes them in a weird way. This would typically sound like blaspheme but I really don't mind it. Not here anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to have the entire untouched score but what Orbital did here is really awesome. It's got those dancey elements ya know? But I really wouldn't want to dance to this. The remix work compliments Michael Kamen's work. The score is definitely there, it's just being put to a paticular dance rythm at times.

I really must suggest this soundtrack for download. Immediately.

A Return To Salem's Lot Main Theme/Michael Minard

Being that there isn't even a DVD for this film to rip any music from, I stumbled upon this one track and did a bit o' mastering.
Shame... this is one of horror's most untalked about entries. I really liked it though. Very tongue in cheek. Just do a search on ebay and you will find almost NOTHING. Big big shame.

Jurassic Park III 28 Track Promo/Don Davis

This is the promo score to Jurassic Park III around Academy time. I suppose I'm not as cranky as some movie goers 'cause I liked this movie. It's got Sam Neill and Dinos running around an island. It's not all that believable but I didn't find it all that abysmal. It's fun, fun, fun!

Don Davis is a fantastic composer and I believeable he did one of those rare good jobs of incorporating John Williams trademarks while incorporating his own sound. I remember spending around $20 on this score back in 2001. I got a 16 track CD including Randy Newman's "No Hat, No Cattle". So why the hell didn't I receive this 28 track complete score that came out months later? No, seriously. What is the big deal? Why can't I just receive the full score when I buy the soundtrack?

Deep Blue/George Fenton

This is a fantastic big ass score for a fantastic epic big ass documentary about our marine wildlife! There's surprisingly little dialog from the narrator (Pierce Brosnan) throughout the feature. But that's okay!

This documentary is shot in such an epic style that it makes Star Wars look like an Ed Wood feature.

As a side note, our guy Pierce does proclaim one final statement before the credits role: A hundred years ago there would have been around 300,000 blue whales. Now there is a mere one percent of that in todays oceans.

Red Dragon Complete/Danny Elfman

I personally thought Red Dragon was a fantastic entry in the Hannibal Lecter saga. This is one of Elfman's most thrilling works. I was very disappointed with the omission of some great cues on the official release. One of the cues that stood out for me in the film and is included only on this complete bootleg is a track titled "What Happened Here". It plays when Edward Norton's character is investigating a house where a brutal massacre took place. High strings swell when he turns on the light in a darkened bedroom to reveal blood spattered all over the walls. Great moment in the film and I'm glad the cue can be found here.

There is also a 3 disc "Recording Sessions" release out there. I have it on disc but unfortunately I seem to have lost the files on my hard drive. It's great stuff so I'll try to get it here in the Junkyard Sanctuary one day.

As for other versions... through google searches I have come across a couple of peoples lists online that mention a 2 CD Complete Edition of this score. I personally cannot find any other indications of that particular version's existence since this version I have easily fits on one disc. What I have provided here runs around 17 minutes longer than the official release and is actually longer than another bootleg I had found before that had around 27 tracks.

This seems to be the definitive version amongst Red Dragon bootlegs. If I find anything more on a 2 Disc Bootleg you can be sure I'll post something about it. But until then I'm considering that bunk.

Until then enjoy the 37 Track Complete Red Dragon score. I'm guessing it's a rip of the isolated score from the DVD.

U-571 Promo/Richard Marvin

I remember really loving this flick back when it came out. I'm pretty sure it still stands up today though it's been years since I've popped in the DVD. I remember loving the score as well. Back then I even recognized that it totally rips off Jerry Goldsmith's score to Air Force One. These days I kind of have mixed feelings towards it because of this fact. Back when I was in my mid teens I had this mentality of 'Wow, that's just like Goldsmith's uber-awesome Air Force One music! Yeah!' now I'm kind of like ' Wow... this is a total rip off Yeah...' But at the same time I don't dismiss the score at all. I do think it works very well in the film and as a stand alone listen.

I've read that the score was rushed and that the film was originally temp tracked with the score to Air Force One. So it makes since that there are extreme similarities.

The Little Rascals Promo/William Ross

This is a very appropriate bombastic score for The Little Rascals movie that came out in the early 90's. Very enjoyable if you were a kid like me when this came out. It brings back fond memories. I would have loved this soundtrack back then. Looking at the movie nowadays, it's not quite as good as you thought it was back then and it's certainly not going to be anywhere as good as the classic stuff. But it's not all that bad either and it's neat to see the Rascals with a modern day cinematic flair.

Piranha/Pino Donaggio

This is a nice moody score for one of Joe Dante's first features, "Piranha". Joe Dante went on to direct some great underrated gems like "The 'burbs", "Gremlins", "Gremlins 2", "Innerspace", "Small Soldiers", Looney Tunes: Back In Action".

Jerry Goldsmith was Joe Dante's composer of choice when it came to collaboration later on.

Enjoy this Goldsmith-less Dante effort. It's a pretty dated sound which I like since it reflects the low budget 70's Corman feel of the movie.

Salem's Lot 47 Track Bootleg Score/ Harry Sukman

I actually haven't heard this one all the way through as a stand alone listen yet. I remember liking a lot of the music in the film though. From skimming through, it doesn't sound like a bad little bootleg. It's not the best quality but it's not horrid either. Could be a lot worse.

I really don't like those bootlegs with all of the SFX but I suppose I'll take them if I've no other choice. This one doesn't seem to have SFX thankfully.

UPDATE: listened to this all the way through today and I must say I'm impressed. Very eerie score. Great background music if you're a guy like me.

UPDATE: Someone in the comments section let us in on the fact that there is now an official release over at buysoundtrax.com. It's the Deathstalker II/Chopping Mall compliation. It has about 15 tracks of Chopping Mall music. I haven't heard this particular version yet so I can't say how it compares but consider what I provided a link for to most likely be a lesser version when it comes to sound quality, though the one I provide a link to is most likely a more complete version.

Babe: Pig In The City/ Nigel Westlake

This is another one of my all time favorite movies and it features a Bull Terrier as well.

The score by Nigel Westlake adds to the often overwhelmingly doom and gloom feel of the feature.
Being that this sequel was directed by the dude who did the Mad Max films, it isn't surprising this took a slightly violent turn.

There are moments of dialog sprinkled throughout the soundtrack just like the first one. It would be nice to have the score without these elements but at the same time it doesn't seem out of place and is often amusing.

Jaws The Revenge Promo/Michael Small

Don't let the bad reputation of this sequel steer you from what is a pretty awesome score. I actually considered this my favorite sequel when I was a lot younger. It's been years since I've seen it, so I'm not sure what I'd think of it these days. I do believe it's a bit on the silly side though what with the psychic shark in the Bahamas (not too mention Bruce the shark isn't in greatest form either). But the opening attack where the dude gets his arm bitten off always freaked me out as a kid.

I do remember liking Loraine Gary and Michael Caine quite a bit and this score always stood out especially for the Main Title which was a really cool extension on the Jaws theme. I do own the original movie poster which I think is fantastic artwork...

This is a promo released back in 2000. This version contains a couple of bonus songs that were added by The Inferno Music Crypt not included on the original disc.

I told you I'd have it and now here it is... the only other Evolution Partners Music complete score release to a Saw film (where the hell are Saw and Saw V complete scores?).

Of all the out of print scores that I have sought out these are some of the most mysterious to me. No one seems to know much about them or of their existence.

Saw III COMPLETE 54 Tracks/Charlie Clouser

This is a nice one. Of the scores for the Saw series, this one has always been my personal favorite with IV a close second.

There was an album release in the U.S. that saw one instrumental track, "Shithole Theme". In Germany there was a 2 disc set where the second disc contained 27 tracks of score.

This version for you is the Evolution Music Partners release. 54 tracks of pure completeness. This is all I know. I have no idea whether this was up on their site at some point or it got a limited CD release. I have no idea. There website offers very little looking at it.

I am busy hunting down big ass scores for Saw II and IV which are definitely out there. Unfortunately, there is nothing when it comes to Saw V though.

Hellraiser: Hellseeker (aka Part 6)/Stephen Edwards

I'm a pretty big fan of the Hellraiser series... of the straight to DVD sequels, this one is my favorite.

Snow Dogs/John Debney

Haven't seen this movie in years, but I know I thought it was a lot better family fare than what the critics made it out to be. It was dumb and harmless and pretty entertaining.

The music stood out to me and I rushed out to get the soundtrack. Alas, there wasn't one available. And I so loved the triumphant main theme...

7 years later I randomly find out online somewhere that there was a promo released. This is it. I love this score.

Tentacles is a movie that I haven't seen since I was probably 12 or so. I love nature strikes back films of any kind even the Jaws rip offs. It's my thing. I'm dying to see it again.

Return To Oz/David Shire

As a fan of the Oz books by L Frank Baum, I have to say I'm a way bigger fan of this movie than the MGM musical. This movie has the look,feel and attitude just right.

It's unfortunate that this was Walter Murch's only film he'd direct. It bombed and hardly anybody out there understood it. Why was it so grim? Where were the singing munchkins?

David Shire's score fully compliments the imagery to a T. It's kind of got that turn of the century ragtime feel to it, which is when these books were being written.

The film and score happen to be amongst my favorite things ever.

eXistenZ/Howard Shore

Subtlety is key with this soundtrack and it works in a way that made Silence of the Lambs the great score it was. That's why this is my second favorite score by Howard Shore behind Silence of the Lambs.

Eerie, haunting, elusive. Just like the story Cronenberg is telling. Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

I remember liking this movie and remembered the soundtrack stood out as being particularly good. After listening to it (twice) today, I must say it makes for an excellent stand alone listen.

Really wish I could find something related to this soundtrack... but nothing.
I love this film. Ralph Bakshi, director of adult animated flicks "Fritz The Cat" and "American Pop" called this his first "family film". Yeah right.

Here you get the one and only song that appears twice in the film, including the end credits. It's called "Only Time Will Tell" performed by Jesse Welles and it's the one and only piece of music you'll probably ever hear out of the movie.

However, I am attempting to contact composer Andrew Belling...

Anyways, this is the name of the guy who composed the score to the low low budget 80's schlocktastical horror feature "Mountaintop Motel Massacre".

God I love this shit.

I don't have much to say except that there will never be a soundtrack available. Eh but that's okay. We'll all most definitely live. This is all you need... eh, "need" is hardly the word... but you want it.

Leviathan/Jerry Goldsmith

I love nice little surprises. I haven't seen this movie in probably 15 years but I decided to plug this in being that I'm a Jerry Goldsmith fanatic.

WOW. This is good stuff. Let it be said that there isn't much in terms of themes and things you'll be humming all day long but this does stand out as being a riveting sc-fi action score!

To me it sounds as if you put his scores to Psycho II and Poltergeist in a blender with a pinch of the punch that makes Total Recall the great score it is.

Gotta love the synthesized whale sounds that are prominent in the first track.

Highly recommended.

Masters Of Horror/Main Titles

What a shame... there's some great music going on in this series but the official soundtrack is a compilation of songs by Mudvayne or Avenged Sevenfold.

Not knocking those artists, but at least give me the Main Titles by Edward Shearmur which itself was a hard edged industrialized piece.

Oh well, that's all I can provide for you right now dear reader.

Not all hope is lost though. Through my research I see there are 4 tracks of score for the episode "Sick Girl" on the soundtrack for the movie "May". I'll have to look into that later on.

I collected Garbage Pail Kids cards like crazy when I was a kid of the 80's. I rented this numerous times on video. Amazing how glorious something can seem when you're little. I had no idea how bad this movie was. However, I still find it entertaining as hell to watch being that it's one of the most inept movies ever made. And I have a lot of fond memories with the GBK.

I like this one about as much as the first actually. I remember this being one of the first movies I ever saw. I was sitting on the couch in the dark with my parents who had rented it. Yes, I saw lots of horror movies when I was around 4-8. Then for some reason I wasn't really allowed for a long while after that (unless they aired on tv and even then I was kind of restricted at times) I suppose my parents had religious mood swings...

This movie is gory as shit and features a really moody score by Simon Boswell. This soundtrack only features a couple tracks by Simon Boswell but... songs by "The Producers" and "Caduta Massi" are actually Simon Boswell too! I'm guessing this was a way to make the album look more full of various artists. So there are a total of 5 tracks of original score. There's some ok songs thrown in there too. The Cult and The Smiths make an appearance.

The Amityville Horror ORIGINAL 1979 Release!

This is a rip of the original 12 track vinyl that came out back in 1979 when the movie was released. It's a gorgeous sounding score with one of horror's all time greatest themes. LAAA LAAAA! LAAA LAAA!! Glorious!

It also contains a disco dance mix called "Amityville Frenzy"! FOR GODS SAKE! GET IT!

In 2002 there was a rerelease. Around this time I had a little website dedicated to my Amityville obsession and I was contacted by someone who worked for Lalo Schifrin. She let me know if I put an advertisement on my site she'd send me a copy autographed by the composer! Sure enough, I got a copy, signed and PERSONALIZED! Woot!

I have the insert framed on my wall actually. Ah, memories. I will always remember the kindness of Lalo Schifrin.

I really don't like saying this but unfortunately the rerelease, though it's been extended to 17 tracks, pails in comparison to the original release. It was all rerecorded with synthesized choir replacing real choir. Also the tempo seems to have been brought waaay down. Disappointing as all of this is, what baffles me the most is that the mixing and mastering is all muddy. Sometimes there are moments where it sounds like the music clips and you actually cringe while listening. What happened? FOR FUCKS SAKE! WHAT HAPPENED?! This is a 2002 release of a 1979 soundtrack and it sounds like it was recorded with a Fisherprice microphone. I'm not ungrateful for the friendly gesture of Lalo Schifrin by any means, I'm happy to have received this. But this particular recording needed a better mastering job.

It's all a mystery to me. Perhaps the Amityville curse is on anything to do with it these days. Hell, just look at that travesty of a remake that came out years ago. Not long after that George Lutz passed away.

Anyways, here is the original release and though it may not contain as much music as the newer release, I would just stick to this one.

Howling III/Wipe Your Tears/Vitamin Z

Wow, this one took a lot of research.

The end credits of The Howling III featured a song called "Wipe Your Tears" by a band called "Vitamin Z". It always stuck with me long after the credits had rolled. There's a small "maybe" as to whether there was a soundtrack release for this film. And if there was, there is no telling at this point if this song was featured on that record. Not to mention finding any albums by this band is a hard thing to come by even through blogspots and search engines. Come to find out, this song is indeed featured on an album of theirs titled "Sharp Stone Rain".

I just so happened to find someone who had this album on one of my favorite download programs. It took some convincing to get him to transfer it over to me. I received it, but to my dismay it was a totally different version than heard in the film. Talk about a bummer.

So what I present to you here is the version heard in the films end credits.

As for the film itself, it's my second favorite Howling movie. It's a stupid 80's b movie about werewolves and it knows it. The only flaw I really have with the movie is that it seems to want us to take it a bit too seriously towards the end. It gets all melodramatic and sappy, but there is a spin at the end that makes me wonder if it did all that as a joke. Kind of. Maybe. I dunno. Weird movie. Nice poster too.

Mankind/Alice Cooper

This is most likely the hardest song to obtain by Alice Cooper. It never saw the light of day on disc. Mankind was written for the atrocious piece of shit "film", "Bloodrayne". Directed by Uwe Boll. More like Ooey Bowels to me. The guy just can't make a watchable movie, yet he's directed more than most great directors. Alice Cooper deserves better than this. However, as expected, the Coop churned out a driving piece of music.

Unfortunately it's hard as fuck to find. It was only available as a free download whilst the official website was up and running for the brief period of time that it ran in theaters (probably less than a week).

Clifford/MainTitle/Richard Gibbs

Okay, now here is a score I have seriously been wanting to obtain in some way shape or form for years. "Clifford" is a rather obscure comedy, looked down upon actually, but I like it. In the early 90's we were getting all of those 'bad kid' comedies like "Problem Child" and "Dennis The Menace". Martin Short had his take on the genre with "Clifford". I liked his take best actually.

"But I didn't say 'Nice wig', Uncle Martin, I said 'Bestest-looking wig'. I believe there is a difference."

The score by Richard Gibbs is big and bold. Unfortunately what I am presenting here is not the entire score. Merely the opening credits. But this is something of a suite that encompasses a bulk of the themes heard in the movie.

Until I have the equipment and know-how to make a bootleg score rip from the DVD, this is the most anyone is going to get from the score to "Clifford". Unless you're Richard Gibbs of course.

Psycho III

As a film, this one doesn't live up to Psycho and Psycho II. But somehow it's not unsatisfying either. It's definitely a solid 80's dark comedy that stands out.

It's a fun watch and completes a story (even though it could have just ended at II as well, I think).

It's been awhile since I've seen it, but there is a lot more "Mother" going on in this one.

"Why can't you leave my poor son, my poor Norman alone?"

Carter Burwell's score is actually a solid effort. The main title theme that plays throughout the film is a somber one. Pretty moody and effective. Interestingly you hear Norman Bates playing the theme on piano in a scene, and it's played in cheesy dance form over a jukebox in a scene.

The download includes the "Scream Of Love" single.

Psycho II

This score isn't quite as hard to find as some of the others I have listed but it's way out of print and I also consider it to be one of my top 5 favorite Jerry Goldsmith scores.

The movie itself shouldn't be overlooked. A rare example of what a sequel should be... it goes in a totally different direction while still being darkly humorous and scary.

While the original is a masterpiece and I consider it to be one of my top favorite films, this one holds a special place in my heart as well. Also Quentin Tarantino once said he preferred this to the original believe it or not.

Planet Of Dinosaurs

I just know millions of you have been aching and yearning and whining for a complete film score to the 1978 film "Planet Of Dinosaurs"!

No? Damn... I have. BUT!
What I have provided for myself and perhaps the very few nostalgia geeks like myself (whom of which will most likely, unfortunately, never find this blog) is the Main Titles music by the far from Oscar winning Kelly Lammers and John O'Verlin (this was their only score, but it's actually really good for an old 80's sci-fi b movie!). I have done some mild mastering work so it doesn't sound quite as fuzzy as it would when listening to it on videocassette. It's not the greatest quality but it works.

This was seriously a movie I popped in constantly as a kid. Along with my "Dinoriders" VHS and my tapped copy of "Dinosaur!" documentary narrated by Christopher Reeve, this was one of the most watched Dino-Vids I viewed.

Sure, it's a low grade B-movie, but I really like the stop motion animation and the bad acting. And in all honesty, the synthesized score gave this a moody feel unlike what you might hear in a movie featuring dinosaurs (somehow typically orchestral).

Frankenweenie Score/David Newman

So here is the film score for Tim Burton's first live action project "Frankenweenie".

This is the 5 track bootleg that might take you awhile to find anywhere else... someone did a decent job extracting the score from all of the sound effects and dialog. It's most likely the only way we'll get to hear this fantastic score since an official release isn't anywhere in the foreseeable future. Oddly enough, the end credits weren't included on the bootleg. Extremely odd to me since that is the easiest piece of music to extract from the film. So I did it myself. Only at the Junkyard Sanctuary will you find the COMPLETE score to Frankenweenie. Enjoy. Big Lots DVD Box Set Insanity!

...So you should head on over to your local run down Big Lots where you can find loads of random DVD's and DVD BOX SETS (!) for $3. I learned this news over at The Manchester Morgue.

After learning the news I ran out the door immediately. I didn't find the Tales From The Crypt box sets that are apparently turning up at some stores but I did snag the Max Fleischer Popeye Vol 1 set. I even saw some Super Friends Volumes.

Day Of The Animals

As I post this I'm currently watching William Girdler's "Day of the Animals" aka "Something is Out There".

It has to be the king of 70's low budget nature strikes back films just for the mere fact that it's not just about a particular species like "Piranha", "Squirm", "Grizzly", etc... it's about all animals at one time kicking our human asses for letting the earth's ozone layer fry.

Ha! Jumping mice! You have GOT to see this movie!

Rude Dog Lookback/Bull Terriers

So does anyone remember the late 80's brand of clothing that came out by Sun Sportswear called 'Rude Dog'? It became big and even became a short lived Saturday morning cartoon series.

I'm pretty sure I had a shirt or two or something to do with this line. I remember vaguely catching the cartoon on tv a few times back then too.

Best thing about this merchandise was that Rude Dog was a Bull Terrier. My favorite breed.

Too bad, despite my thorough research, I haven't found a way to find a high quality mp3 of the opening/closing theme music. I believe there were three VHS releases. It ran for one season but I don't believe even these three tapes contain all of the cartoons. This is one DVD, I for one, hope to see. But it seems to be one of those things that have slipped so far into obscurity, no one is even thinking about releasing it. But I've been wrong before...

Unfortunately the merchandise and cartoon was yanked because it was said that the character was being confused with another famous Bull Terrier mascot at the time... Budweiser's own Spuds MacKenzie.

I suppose Bull Terriers are just too 'rude' for the kiddies... Hell, even Disney refused to release Tim Burton's first live action film 'Frankenweenie' in theaters in front of an animated film for being too 'scary'.

But lo and behold, Tim Burton's name got big and Disney released it finally on VHS and it aired many times on the Disney Channel as far as I remember.

There is a 5 track bootleg of David Newman's soundtrack out there. Rather muddy sounding and doesn't feature the end credits music (weird being it should be the easiest piece to obtain since there is no dialog or sound effects to mute out!) but it's certainly better than nothing...

A feature length stop motion animated version of the film is due soon...

Also there is a rather obscure French film that's gained a small cult following. It's called 'Baxter'.

It's a terrific film I recommend to anybody with a sick and twisted sense of humor.

If you thought 'American Psycho' was the funniest film since Caddyshack then this may be your cup of tea. It's essentially about a Bull Terrier that just can't find the right owner for him and ends up wanting to kill everyone who takes him in. Rightfully so I think... I was rooting for our four legged Norman Bates the entire time.

See also, Babe: Pig in the City. It's too late in the night for me to go on about how much I love this film. It's a better film than the original. A film with so many stylistic qualities and nuances from director George Miller (Mad Max)that I can't even start or I'll go off on extreme tangents.

Let me just say to you SEE IT. It features a Bull Terrier which is referred to unfortunately as a 'Pit Bull'. The film is so good and cast such a remarkable light on the BT that I won't hold the false title of his breed against the film.

He and Babe hold the films most memorable scenes. Oh yeah, the film is unexpectedly violent as well.

The score by Nigel Westlake is heartwarming as well has heartwrenching at times.

The only film that I can't consider all that dark that features a bull terrier is a Disney film called 'The Incredible Journey'.

I proudly own that poster actually...

It was remade years later and retitled 'Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey'... a fun film I remember but replaced Bodger the Bull Terrier with a bulldog named Chance... the others stayed the same breed... boo.

So yes, I suppose overall the breed is looked at as something slightly adult and maybe even mildly scary. That itself is another blog on the breed. But as for myself... well, I for one know that a Bull Terrier is anything but... the silliest creature I know is my very own Bishop...

Popeye- First Post

'Popeye' was a film my parents saw on their honeymoon in 1980.

It gets a 4.8 rating on imdb.com which is a real shame. Director Robert Altman obviously knew the material well because I seriously can't imagine a more faithful true live production of the comic and Max Fleischer cartoon. It's just lavish. I don't even believe it's gained much of a cult following either... it's hard to find a person that doesn't go 'Oh that piece of shit' when you mention it... I really don't think these people understood the world of Popeye to begin with!

And the soundtrack is just as marvelous.

There was a 12 track LP released at the time of release it was never released officially on CD...

Years ago before I did as much research on film scores/soundtracks as I do now, I made my own DVD Rip of the soundtrack. The final film versions have slightly different orchestrations and nuances than appear on the album. I kick myself for not knowing where the hell it is right now but it exists somewhere in my archives. However after listening to the actual album I prefer the album versions. They sound gloriously crisp and glossed over.

'Sweet Haven' may be my favorite and 'He Needs Me' is also marvelous but I think the track that stood out for me most was 'Kids' which is primarily an instrumental track with Ray Walston rambling to infinity about... well, kids. It goes on and on and on and on. It's hilarious. It reminded me a lot of me actually.

Only things I don't like are that "Everything is Food" and "End Credits" doesn't show up anywhere on the album. And being that the former was a complete song it baffles me as to how it didn't make it on the album. But I found where someone had ripped those off the DVD like I did years ago. So they are included in the download I have provided.

Also there is what I consider to be a completely different album which is nothing but the original demos by Harry Nilsson.

An interesting listen and highly enjoyable but most likely only to those who are huge fans of the film like myself.
